Living in Peace.

In order to live in peace, try not depend on anyone and at the same time try to help others not to depend on you. Help them become independent, free and responsible for their lives. In the same way, ensure you do not cause anyone sorrow, and do not allow others to be a source of hurt for you.

All so very true. There is a fine line between helping and helping someone be dependent.

I think that is really important considering what you have been through lately, as well as with your SIL and brother.
Hope that this weekend will give them both a chance to communicate with one another without having you to be the middle man and relay messages.
