Dave Karofsky is a character on GLEE, and he’s amazing. The actor Max Adler, really does a fantastic job portraying him. You have got to watch the show.

OH RICK! I didn’t mean for you to have to not write about him, but after watching this week’s episode, I just had to write about it, it was bursting out of my head. I too would love to see the pain dissipate and have him be openly gay and happy and stuffs, but life isn’t just that easy. Many many of us endure what feels like lifetimes of pain, and others truly do, and that’s why his pain is so desperately needed.
There’s finally a pop culture icon to express what we have been trying to for so long and have had our efforts fall on lost cause because people just won’t open their minds. I feel like they’re starting to. FINALLY!

I’m not understanding why you feel he need’s to stay in the closet. Truth be told I don’t even know who he is. I know this is part one, so maybe I’ll come to a better understanding after reading part two.

Heather, I have such complex feelings for this character. He has the least number of words and scenes in the series (I don’t think we see him nearly enough), yet I’m riveted to him and his situation. He is every bully who ever bullied me. But he’s vulnerable, too. His anguish is the anguish of us all, at one time or another. And, I’m with you on this–I don’t want him out of the closet either. Well, part of me does, so his life becomes easier, so he can be one step closer to his true self, but part of me doesn’t, because, somehow, I love him the way he is–suffering, conflicted, tormented.
What a wonderful character Karofsky is. What potential he has. I look forward to seeing his story unfold. (There, now I don’t need to write a third post on him. Thanks.)

Absolutely Add me! I don’t mind at all. In fact, I’ll return the favor!

I firmly believe, that children are a product of their parenting. The worse the parents are at raising children, the worse the child is, and the cycle perpetuates it’s self if there’s no work done by the child as they grow up and mature into adults themselves. It’s tragic and 100% avoidable. Because you CAN procreate, doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

Vee, You’re absolutely right. However, there’s a danger in being out, or in. And yes, coming out isn’t just for sexuality or gender identity. It’s most commonly used in that reference though. I have been having this discussion with a few people recently.

I hate it when people say “it’s only high school”, as if somehow gay bullying was ok because it then involves young teenagers that are not fully mature yet. As you said: it is NOT ok. It should never be acceptable to discriminate or bully another person based on her or his sexual orientation. And if such things happen in high school, it’s only because we have failed, as a society, to raise children in a tolerant and violence-free environment. And that means more work need to be done.

“why is it so wrong to choose a closeted live?” It’s a very good question, actually. It seems like people have a problem if others hide, yet they don’t want anybody to know that they are in fact hiding too – and this is not strictly related to coming out as gay or lesbian.
The thing is, out or closeted, someone somewhere is going to get hurt.

Wow! Powerful writing, Heather. And great examples of similar lunacies.
But you know, of course, people will try to discredit Walker because of his sexual orientation. How could they not? It plays right into what they think homosexuals are about, including our supposed agenda.
Don’t be so quick to leave our continent yet I hate to say it, but it’s worse even on other continents. In the meantime, we need people like you, helping us to make sense of the nonsensical.
